WHY MOTIVATION IS BS

Today I'm talking about why it's so hard to make lasting change

Have you ever got sick and tired of something and set out to make massive changes? You started off great and had all the motivation in the world, NOTHING can stop you. And then a couple days or weeks pass, motivation fades, and you slowly (or quickly) revert back to your old habits. Motivation is bullshit. That's a bit dramatic, but really, it only gets you so far. In James Clear's book 'Atomic Habits' he talks about how small changes make big results. One of my favorite quotes from that book is "You don't rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems". To me that reiterates my point about motivation being bullshit. Sure when you're feeling motivated you can do everything necessary to achieve your goals, but if it's something long term, motivation fades. And if you haven't set up systems in that time to continue, you're likely to fall off. CONSISTENT, slow and small changes are far more effective long term. Break your goals up into smaller pieces and implement them slowly, but practice them EVERYDAY.

What are your experiences with trying to change habits?

Changing habits takes time and is a process, it's not just the flip of a switch

• Motivation only gets you started and quickly fades

• Small, steady, consistent actions make lasting change

• Changing habits is about creating and following a plan

Try to break your goals into small pieces and implement each piece slowly and see how much more effective it is!
